Directions to the Country School House Quilt Shop

My shop is at the corner of 21st Ave. E. and East 5th Street.  I’m in the DeSmet Agency building.  They have a big sign in parking lot and my little sign is on building next to door.

Directions to the shop: (I am only 3 blocks from the Lake, so when you get to the lake, drive 3 blocks away from it and that is E. 5th St.)   (1) Driving N on Hwy 2/53.  When you see McDonald’s on the right & Culver’s on the left, turn left and go 3 blocks to stop sign,  is  E. 5th St.  The DeSmet Agency building is diagonally across the street.  (2) From Mn – take Blatnik Bridge and follow the Hwy 53 S. signs which will take you under the bridge and along the lake, past Perkins and Fairlawn Museum.  At Culver’s, turn right and  go 3 blocks to stop sign which is E. 5th St.  The DeSmet Agency building is diagonally across the street.  (3) Coming from the N on Hwy 35 (Tower Ave).  Turn right on N 28th St. (Mall Drive) – go past mall and over railroad tracks.  Turn right at the stop lights onto E. 5th St.  Go 3 blocks to 21st Ave E. The DeSmet Agency building is on the right.

June is Busting Out All Over – I can smell the blossoms on my crab apple tree as I write this.  The lilacs are just waiting for a warm day to open and the rhubarb just keeps growing!  June is going to be a very busy month for us and for you….just take a look at all the things coming up and mark them on your calendar.

Trunk Show of Let’s Twist…One Last Time – now through June 13th.  We have most of it in the hall with cards telling you about the quilt/project and some of the projects are by the coffee pot (infinity scarves, vest and bag).  I did not bring the queen size quilt as it is huge.  This is the last book of this series and I used all 3 size Twisters in some of the quilts and others have “midi” Twister and Lil’ Twister.  Come and see them for more inspiration on using the Twister tools.

MN Quilt Show at the DECC – dates are June11-13.  We will be having special hours to accommodate all quilters who will be in town for this.  June 11 and 12 will be 10-7 p.m. and June 13 will be 10-4 p.m.  We will also have some goodies to help shoppers keep up their energy.  Remember we are only 13 minutes from the DECC.  Turn left out of parking lots and another left at Garfield onto the Blatnik Bridge and follow Hwy 2/53 south and turn right a Culver’s – go to stop sign on E. 5th St. and I am diagonally across street in the insurance building with big parking lot.

Row by Row Experience begins June 23 at our shop – Sept. 8th.  The theme for this year is water and each shop will do their interpretation of this strip which is 9 ½” x 36 ½”.  Each shop participating will have a free pattern of their strip for you.  Most will also have kits of their strip that you can purchase along with an assortment of other items.  We will have a small license plate pin that has “row by row 2015” on it and is really cute.  I only have 50 of those.  We will also have 2 choices of fabric for our strip pattern.  One is Northcott’s “Lake” and the other is a Batik.  We have the “Lake” one up on display and the name of our strip is “Shores of Gitche Gumee”.  The goal of “row by row” is to make a quilt from at least 8 strips from different shops and then take the completed quilt to one of the participating shops and if you are the first one to turn it in to them (they don’t take it-only a picture of you and your quilt) you win a stack of 25 fat quarters.  If you use that shop’s strip in it, they will have an extra gift for you.  This is meant to be a fun summer travel event as there are shops in every state and in each province in Canada.  There is also a little side event that involves making Robin the Bobbin and bringing it with you to the shops, taking a selfie with it at that shop and submitting it to the pattern company and you may win a nice price – 1 from each state will win.  We will have ours on display by the 23rd.

***If you want to continue getting this newsletter – I need you to send me your e-mail address as I have to go to another computer to make my groups starting in July.  Just reply to my e-mail and let me know if it is correct or not.  I have way too many old addresses that are coming back and causing problems for my old computer.  Thanks for your cooperation in this.  I will then have up-to-date addresses for those who want the newsletter.

Fabrics are coming like mad!!  I have darling “Cuddle” fabrics.  Some Christmas lines have come in – they’re in my sewing machine room.  I have cute “very fine” corduroy they were showing at market in for kid’s quilts and clothing.  I also have a couple bolts of “Bark” cloth that makes fashionable bags and swing coats!  We will have a new swing coat pattern and sample as soon as it gets to us the end of June.  The pattern writers were not done with it yet at Market.
