Log Cabin Retreat – This is a very special quilt (56 x 56) where I took a pattern by Eleanor Burns and divided it into 2 parts to be used with a beginner.  It takes a beginner through cutting 5″ squares from a layer cake and couple strips of fabrics, sewing 9 patch blocks together, and then deciding if they feel confident to go to the next part (pages 8, 9, 10) which is cutting the 9 patch blocks and sewing them back together in another block setting.  This is a great pattern as when it is done, it looks more complicated than it is.  It also looks very nice with just the nine-patch blocks left as is with the borders around.  The border that has precut sides and the top and bottom are cut from the border fabric included.  This fabric is gorgeous and tends to give the look as if the trees have been brushed on.  The log cabins which are on the border remind me so much of my grandparents’ cabin! You have enough fabric to do this kit either way you choose.  The first picture is the fabric used for the first part of the pattern and the 2nd picture is of the pattern cover after it has been cut up and resewed.  This kit is $84.99 and includes layer cakes, fabric, binding, and pattern by Eleanor Burns. Any level of quilter likes this pattern.
